MIST® Therapy

Clinically-Proven Wound Care

Non-healing wounds are a persistent problem, whether caused by diabetes, poor blood flow, bacterial infection, pressure, or inflammation. In an inpatient or outpatient setting at Peabody, MIST® Therapy helps improve patient outcomes with pain-free treatment and accelerated healing.

MIST® Therapy for Treatment of Wounds

Using saline mist to deliver sound waves, the clinically proven MIST® Therapy treatment painlessly penetrates into and below the wound. It gently pushes back against cell walls to break down and reduce bacteria found in all wounds and to “wake” up “stalled” healthy cells to accelerate normal healing.

The goal of our wound care treatment program is to help people with difficult-to-treat wounds heal more quickly through painless, non-contact, low-frequency ultrasound therapy delivered via saline mist.

Treatment goals and patient outcomes include:

  • Stimulate cells at and below the skin surface
  • Reduce inflammation
  • Reduce bacteria and biofilm
  • Increase blood flow
  • Accelerate healing
  • Improve patient satisfaction

Specialized Wound Care Services

With single treatment times ranging from 3 to 20 minutes, depending on the size of the wound, the therapy has proven to be time well spent for superior outcomes with challenging types of wounds, including:

  • Deep-tissue injuries and surgical wounds
  • Diabetic foot ulcers and pressure ulcers
  • Chronic, acute, and traumatic wounds
  • Venous/arterial wounds
  • Grafts, flaps, and burns

Evidence-Based Results with Unique Benefits

With MIST® Therapy, meta-analysis findings report an average 85 percent wound area reduction in 7 weeks and nearly an 80 percent volume reduction in 12 weeks. Approximately 42 percent of treated wounds healed in 12 weeks (compared to 24 percent with standard of care) and patients experienced a 79 percent reduction in pain.

The benefits of MIST® Therapy include:

  • Effective breakdown of wound bacteria reduces the risk of post-surgical site infections—especially effective with post-coronary bypass, colon-rectal, and bariatric surgeries, and other procedures.
  • Proactive cell stimulation helps reverse the negative outcomes of deep tissue injuries.
