Falling is a concern for many older adults. And with good reason – falls are the leading cause of injury in adults age 65 and older. At Peabody Retirement Community, we offer specialized, state-of-the-art balance screening to prevent falls in seniors with our Biodex Balance System™.
Part exercise machine, part computer and video game, the Biodex Balance System is a one-stop checkup for balance—available in North Manchester only at Peabody Retirement Community. Biodex pinpoints an individual’s risk factors, thus allowing Peabody Wellness Center staff to tailor a personalized program to help decrease that risk and improve your balance, promoting senior wellness. The system is available both to Peabody residents and for rehabilitation for seniors and older adults alike on an outpatient therapeutic basis.
Before therapy, the Biodex system helps us perform comprehensive fall risk screenings and develop patient-specific, targeted conditioning protocols. Periodically, during and after treatment, the system’s objective reporting helps ensure that all treatment goals are met.
When used as part of our senior fall prevention strategies or targeted course of treatment, this state-of-the-art balance screening system allows individuals to meet their specific goals, whether they are visiting our senior rehabilitation as orthopedic patients, neurological patients or Parkinson’s patients.
Biodex offers documentation that boosts the effectiveness of rehab by enhancing objectivity, improving clinical decision-making and patient treatment management, which provides an objective means of measuring results. Overall, the system has helped patients not only reduce the risk of falls, but also to increase mobility, improve balance, develop muscle tone and increase agility.
